Cross browser and device compatibility continues to be one of the most annoying things about being a web developer!
As usual this week, I got so far into building the idea that I wanted to explore for this week’s E-Learning Heroes Challenge that it was only after publishing that I discovered the key JavaScript component responsible for controlling the volume for each piece of music (HTML Audio/Video DOM volume Property – https://www.w3schools.com/tags/av_prop_volume.asp) was not compatible with mobile devices!
So unfortunately this means that the current version of this experience that you are viewing now is only available to load on either desktop or laptop devices where the experience should hopefully be as seamless as possible.
The audio tracks themselves are loaded into the project using the Open File / URL trigger trick which loads each asset file into the project ready to be loaded and manipulated via JavaScript.
Depending on the position of the dial (a value between 0-200) the volume of either the musical piece, or the radio static sound, will gradually fade in and out over the top of one another.
This combined with a long scrolling seasonal nature scene produced with the help of Adobe Photoshop 2024 and Adobe Firefly Image 2 creates a very calming audio-visual experience which I hope you will enjoy very much!
